Fend for Yourself

I used to hate the evenings when I was growing up and mom would say, "It's fend for yourself night." What this meant is that everyone had to prepare and clean up their own dinner. I always hated that because I hated cooking back then. I also used to think that making a sandwich or warming up leftovers in the microwave was cooking.

Now, I love Fend for Yourself Night. I have declared just that. I'm not cooking. Jason is off mountain biking and I am at home alone. I went for a run and cleaned up and now I'm ready for bed. I'm going to eat some cheesy grits and curl up on the couch and watch some good old fashioned t.v. I hope to be in bed by 9:30. Mmm. I love Fend for Yourself Night.

It is true guys. I did boil a pot dry one time. I was going to make some rice and I put water on to boil. Then, I decided to go out and play on my Slip and Slide.

Hey Rach...what's for lunch?

I love you sister even if you wouldn't make me a sandwich when I had a broken back.

I'm so glad I taught you "Fend For Yourself Night." That could also be known as "Left-Over Night." That is where I would put all the leftovers in the fridge on the counter and then throw out everything that isn't eaten. That was usually on Thursday night, because I generally grocery shopped on Friday.

Um...can non-Newtons comment on this post? I wasn't sure cause it was feeling awful familial around here at the moment.

By the way, Mitch, anybody who signs in with "goatfarmer" should DEFINITELY keep a blog.

As we get older these nights become much more numerous. We cook once or twice a week and then it is definitely fend for yourself. Ugh. Cheese grits. That's when I hit the PB&J if that kind of stuff is all that's left.

Comment anytime, Todd.

When are you guys coming to Texas?

It's hard to have these nights with three small children. But we do have "left over night". Miss you lots.
